Ebike Tune-Up Cost: What's Included and When You Need One

The ranges below are our network's pricing tables, not manufacturer service estimates.

A general tune-up runs $80 to $150 in our network's typical range, and unlike most repair pricing, that span is narrow because the job is well defined: it is the everything-service covering brakes, shifting, tires, bolts, lube, and an electrical once-over. Its close cousin, the pre-purchase inspection for used-bike buyers, runs $75 to $150. The table below shows both.

What drives the price

Condition, mostly. A new-bike shakedown after the initial break-in sits at the low end: cables have stretched, a few bolts want torque, and everything else is fresh. A bike that has done a season of commuting, or sat outside through one, takes longer to bring back to baseline, and time is what a tune-up is made of. Seasonal readiness work lands in between. The other variable is what the tune-up finds: the service price covers adjustment and inspection, and if worn parts turn up, pads at the end of their life, a stretched chain, tires showing casing, those are quoted separately before anything is replaced.

Where the money goes

Almost entirely labor. A tune-up has no big-ticket part in it by design; you are paying for a mechanic's time and attention across the whole bike, plus shop consumables like lube and threadlocker. That is also why it is honest value: the same visit that adjusts your brakes catches the loose spoke or corroding connector before either becomes its own repair ticket.

DIY or call a tech

A real share of tune-up value is available to any owner between services. Keep tires at sidewall pressure and check weekly, since ebikes lose air like any bike but punish low pressure harder. Lube the chain on our shop's starting-point interval of every 100 to 150 miles, wet lube in rain country, dry lube in dust. Store the battery indoors at partial charge when the bike sits unridden, in the 20 to 80 percent band most manufacturers recommend for storage. None of that requires tools beyond a pump and a bottle of lube.

What the DIY path cannot easily replace is the systematic pass: bolt torque throughout the frame, brake and shifting adjustment done to spec, and the electrical inspection. On cadence, our shop's starting point is twice a year for daily riders and annual for weekend riders, sooner if the bike lives outdoors or rides wet, salty, or dusty routes.

What a mobile tune-up includes

Six things, every time: brake adjustment and pad check, drivetrain clean and lube, shifting adjustment, a bolt torque check across the bike, tire pressure and wear check, and a connector and battery-contact inspection. That last item is the difference between an ebike tune-up and a bicycle tune-up. Corrosion and loose connectors are behind a large share of the electrical faults we get called for, and catching them at a tune-up is the cheap version of that visit.

The pre-purchase inspection is the same discipline pointed at a bike you have not bought yet: battery capacity test, full mechanical inspection, electrical diagnostics, and a market value assessment. A used ebike's battery health is invisible without a load test, and a $100 inspection routinely saves buyers from $800 battery surprises.

Mobile makes this the easiest service on the menu: the tech comes to your driveway with the stand and tools, works through the checklist, and anything beyond the tune-up itself gets a written estimate before any work starts.
