Full battery pack replacement is its own tier of cost: it sits at the top of our $60 to $800 battery range, because a new pack is the single most expensive component on most ebikes, and scarce legacy packs can reach $900, as the brand table below shows. What drives the price
The first driver is whether the pack is actually the problem. What we see on the bench is that a bike that will not charge often has a failed charger, debris or corrosion in the charge port, or a battery management system that locked itself out after the pack sat fully drained for weeks. All of those live at the low end of the range. The pack itself only becomes the bill when a load test shows real, progressive capacity loss or a failed cell group dragging the rest of the pack down.
The second driver is the pack you buy. Replacement pricing tracks voltage and capacity, and quality matters as much as size. Our recommendation is the same one we give Rad owners in our brand notes: avoid no-name packs without UL certification. A lithium pack is not the place to save money on an uncertified part.
The third driver is the brand. Rad packs are 48V with well-known cell configurations, out-of-warranty replacements are available from Rad and reputable third parties, and our network's range for range-loss work on them runs $90 to $650. Juiced is the cautionary tale: OEM 52V packs are scarce because the original company closed in 2024 and the relaunched brand does not support legacy models, which is why the Juiced line of our brand table reaches $900.
Where the money goes
On the low-end jobs, you are mostly paying for diagnostic time plus a modest part: a charger, a fuse, a port cleaning. On a full replacement the split flips: the pack is the overwhelming share of the bill, and the labor is the smaller part, covering the swap, a charge test, and verification that the bike charges and rides normally afterward.
DIY or call a tech
There is a genuine DIY path here, and it is where every owner should start. Try a different wall outlet. Inspect the charge port for debris. Verify the charger LED lights when it is plugged into the wall alone; if that light never changes color, the problem is likely the charger or the battery, not the bike. Reseat the pack firmly. If your range dropped, rule out the cheap causes first: inflate the tires to the sidewall rating and spin each wheel to check for brake rub, and remember that cold weather temporarily reduces range that returns when it warms up.
One hard line: never attempt to open a lithium battery pack yourself. Cell-level work is not an owner job.
Call a tech when the simple checks fail. A load test gives a clear verdict on whether the pack is truly done, and a battery that locked out after a deep discharge can often be safely recovered, which is far cheaper than replacing it.
When replacement beats repair
Recovery is worth attempting before replacement: a BMS lockout looks exactly like a dead pack and is not one. But lithium cells age, and once a capacity test shows the cells are truly done, replacement is the path; for orphaned brands, quality third-party or rebuilt packs are the usual route. Our recommendation before any pack is ordered: price the replacement against what the bike is worth to you. That is an honest conversation we would rather have before the parts order, not after.
