These e-bikes are treated as bicycles, with no driver's license, registration, or insurance required, but operators must be at least 16 years old. North Carolina's helmet law requires riders under 16 to wear a helmet on any bicycle. Faster or more powerful models may fall under the state's moped rules instead.
